The $15,000 GTD

Its pretty early here and i didnt het much sleep last night but ill try rehash some key hands from the Tournament. Im chuffed i won it as its been a few months now since Ive won any online tournaments. Jeeesh you do need to get lucky in some key hands though! Funny thing is, I missed the first s whole levels last night as I was in town when it started and didnt get home till the start of the $50/$100 ! I must start keepin notes on key hands, Paddypowers new update actually allows you to go through your hand history rather than the old piece a crap they had so i might look through it tonight. I was completly card dead for about 2 hours, I got through level 4 and still had not played one hand, I bought in for $18 and rebought immediately to bump my stack to $4,000 and by the start of level 5 i had $3,200 ! Wasnt lookin great...When i fianlly picked up a marginal-at-best-hand in the BB of A 10 o its raised and called and i have to drop it, grr, then the next orbit UTG raises OTT (about 8 x BB) and folded to me on BB with A5 of spades, brutal hand but when its the 2nd best hand youve seen in over an hour you wanna play but I fold it, but the next hand is ...eh funny! So the blinds were at 100/200 now and its folded to me on the SB and i hold the monster that is K7 but i feel like punishing the guy for takin my BB last hand with his OTT raise so I go all in...he insta calls with Aq of clubs but i spike a K high flop and suddenly I have nearly 7,000! Then I start to pick up some hands, never anything top quality but a few AQ's and pocket 10's where I either took the blinds or continuation bet took the pot down, I had a very aggressive player who nearly 100% of the time rose it up from the Cut Off which was my BB, i took some notes on him as I got to see he usually min raised with a bad Ace (A 2 !!) but he wasnt a player to be pushed around too much either..

He raises from cut off, blinds were 300/600, he was sitting on about 12,000 , BB calls his 1,800
Flop came 6 10 9 all clubs, BB check raises all in for about 9,000 , PLayer ni cut off dwells and calls him with A6 (no clubs!!!), BB shows..................A6 as well with no clubs!!! Nutterzz!!

So i was wary of him, i decided if i was gonna play this guy it was be preflop and hopefully well timed, I came over the top of him about 3 or 4 times in the whole tournament and every time he layed it down, he was an Irish guy and he had balls cause he had no problem raising from EP with a load of massive chip stacks behind him. Me and him were both growing our stacks at the same time. I never had much to come over the top but i knew he would lay down, A 10 found its way to the all in manoveour when the blinds were 600/1,200 and he AGAIN raised from EP (i think he did it 4 times in a row once) and he made it 8,000 and folded to an all in, however i have to say the 3rd i did it i *really* wanted him to fold, i mean Q 7 o is a monster in some card games Im sure !

There are so many NUTTY players in these tournaments, it was killin me at the 50/100 blinds that i couldnt pick up a hand cause i seen some of the worst poker of my life there and i coouldnt get my hands on any of the dead money, one guy was rebuyin nearly every orbit who loved ANY ace and would *call* of all his chips post flop with A high no kicker...Q 2s was good enough for some players to force the action...just shows how critical patience is and wait it out..let these lunamatics have their fun for now...

I survived another "Dont come here stealing my blinds attempt" in level 5 (where i made a terrible play but for a different reason that it looks at first)

In the small blind with 100/200 blinds, all folded to the button whose sittin on about 9,000, I have about 6,700 , he makes it 800 to go, 4 times the BB on the button so, I have Q J of hearts and move in on him tryin to push him off his weak ace etc. He insta calls with KQ of hearts...oh oh but luckily we split the pot with Q's and 10's with an Ace kicker...heres my mistake, with 370 players your gonna get such a mixed bunch of players from "I got paint..whooo hoo im all in" any Ace is a monster to your solid player whos got game, at these early stages it just too hard to know who your Tango'in with, how many times have you seen a player amass a seriuos amount of chips through pure luck (eh....K7 vs AQ!?) and people new ot the table assume they must be good and try avoid. Well pushin with QJ here is fine i think if you believe you have enough chips to make the raiser need a strong premiun hand to call and herefore have a good chance of gettin him to fold. However its important to pick your monents and i think with the rebuy still in progress you have to assume peoples range of callin hands are so loose that you have to have a hand you really believe has the better edge. Basically assume its very likely you will get called so be prepared !!!
I wont be puttin all my chips (if im well over startin stack) at risk without a pretty good hand.

The MIN raise

One crucial hand that nealry messed it up for me:
Blinds at 4,000/8,000 i click MIN raise with 55 in MP and BOOM 53,000 of my stack goes into the middle (nearly half my stack) !! and the tighest player at the table pushes all in and i have to fold with him showin KK (he hadnt raised once in over an hour) but i got my stack back eventually

I spent long enough discussing that with Dave from PPP so im not going to go on about it too much here, basically in the "Enter amount" bit of you screen it remembers your last raise and doesnt reset to zero so it through away half my stack when we were down to 20 players and it took the wind out of me. I had just about 18,0000 left with blinds at 4,000/8,000 and in the BB had no choice but to call an all in with 7 4 from an EP riaser who luckily only had A9 and i caught a 4 on the flop to win that, no one want to put me all in after that and with AQ A10 and pocket 9's I stole the blinds 3 times and suddenly was back in the game.

The final table was alot fun, but when we were down to 5 I got lucky baby ...folded to me in SB with A 9, now i had stole this guys BB (actually the guy who had KK vs my min raise with 55 thingy) about 3 out of the last 5 orbits with alot worse than A 9, but this time i just completed the blinds, Blinds were 10,000/20,000, im sittin on about 280,000 and hes on about 350,000
So im complete the blinds, he raises to 90,000. Now I had him noted as a tight player but also its possible he is using this to get me to fold, i mean why had i only completed the BB when i was rasing so often, but i nearly folded anyway and then hit the MAX raise to see how much it was, i thought it was enough to get him off any hand he wasnt happy to go broke with and i pushed all in, he called with QQ and my heart was in me mouth, flop came 9 high ("we woulda been all in on the flop anyway" I tell myself tryin to sooth the agony) , but im feelin something, come on Ace, turn blank..iver ACE !!!! WOW Was glad nevo seen it cause i couldnt believe it ! That gave me a stack of well over 400,000 and now right up there in 2nd place with 1st on over 7,000,000. Then after about 3 orbits, short stack goes all in for 100,000 another player calls leaving himself with about 70,000 behind and i go all in with 99 and he calls showing AQ and original raiser has A9 , i dodge every A and Q in the deck and suddenly im chip leader with 3 left sittin with iver 1,000,000 in chips!

Heads up lasted about 3 hands where on the BB i had 6 8 of hearts and got it all in on the flop of 5 7 x with a nearly 3 to 1 chip lead i decided t o gamble on the draw, he turned over 5 7 for top 2 pair but i hit it right away on the turn and took it down! Felt good, real good and because of it took the other tournament a bit too lightly which is shit cause the thoughts of winning back to back tournaments sounds real nice! Was chattin to Analyser (who came 2nd in both tournaments one night) who was railbirding me in the $10,000 saw my AK losing to 99 which was actually for a 60,000+ pot which was a ncie stack at the FT cause blinds were 600/1,200..oh well

Myself and Analyser went to a 9 seater STT but i couldnt take it serious and after bluffin all 2/3's of my stack with AK ended up all in with JJ vs AA and was gone before the 2nd level ! Was a bit gutted with the $10,000 GTD cause i watched the FT and man they dropped like flies after i left so even another 20 inutes would have got me up to 4th place which was over 1,400 i think but about $5,700 for about 4 hours work is good enough for me!

Obviously playin again tonight ! But going to cash out over €2,500 as i need this money, and it has come at the right time too so all in all pretty chuffed at the mo! and pretty glad to have another MTT under the belt as the blog was missing a few! December had quite a lot so nice to get another one! Onwards and upwards

BTW brutal Tournament report I know !

Hopefully many more
