Might as well get it going on a high...D'oh!
Hiiiii everyyyybody !
So im just a low stake poker fanatic (who isnt these days) whose finally got a poker scene up and running here in my home town longford (or the Almighty Schlongford as it also referred to as).
We've been up and running since Dec' 05 so we're still little newbies...awe! Normally we run a €30 buy in with 2 rebuys but the standard is low enough so last night we ran our 1st €50 freezeout (High stakes now!!) ...heres an email i sent a mate this morning!! A better time to start my Blog could have been found but sure, why not.....!!
So we got our 1st freezeout tournament running yesterday at a savage time of 6 o clock, we went against most of the people's choice and we gave everyone a nice big starting stack of 10,000 and blinds set to 25 mins starting at 50/100...23 players paid €50, we wanted a real game of poker with the intentions of avoiding a crapshoot and hopefully reduce the luck factor,
so i didnt get off to a great start, twice in the first level i got dealt A's and got no action, which was unusual cause there was one or 2 callin stations that never seem to believe i can pick up a hand, then i lost nearly half my stack with JJ ....uhh! Then i look behind me and see something i never like seein, John my mates stack well trebled up, he bust his uncle out and nearly nevo in one hand, players dropped out pretty fast even with the big startin stack, it was great that it was a freezeout as Choicers Rebuys im afraid, my stack never seemed to move up to much but once i got back to over 10,000 i put aside my chips that are "profit" and try make money with them, then i get 55 dealt with blinds at 300/600 (which means any time you raise preflop, your building a big pot which can be hard to fire a semi-bluff into ) i get one caller from the BB who i know likes any Ace, flop is raggedy, i bet, i bet the turn again, he calls and im happy to check the river and win a big pot which got me into the zone and now players didnt wanna get involved with me so preflop i could steal alot, anywho, on the last hand before the break i call with 56 offsuit, just the blinds (a daft call but i said to everyone "loosest call in poker this..." i talk alota chit at the table when i feel comfortable) and the flop was 5 6 8 with 2 hearts, SB bets, BB calls, i push all in, lookin back this is a crazy move on a seriously dangerous flop with 3 payers behind me, Foochin nearly everyone wants to call but its folded to the BB his name is Jimmy Ireland (remember this guys name...old timer kinda guy) who decided to call for all his chips with a 7 in his hand for an open ender with no hearts, guess this is the only hand i wanted to call me, turn brings a 7 but river is a blank and i nearly double up right in time for the break...funny thing is *everyone* else who wanted to play he hand would have bet me !!!! he he....suckersz!!
Anyway make it to final table with a comfy stack, but its anyones game now as everyone has enough chips to damage or knock some one out except i think for 2 players. For the first half an hour we really picked on the shorties and once they were dealt with the game opened up a bit, nearly straight away my hand was caught a là cookie Jar, folded to me on Cut off and with an 8 2 of i made it 4000 to play, blinds on a low 500/1000 and then John (who recently won €5,000 at Celtic Poker and ive played against him online in MTTs) pushes all in for another 30+ grand, i fold and he shows 7 9 offsuit, i like his style!! Didnt get anything worth playin with for about an hour and then an interesting hand came up, player to my right is the biggest callin station ive ever seen, not much of a player but hit a few flops and i donated most of my chips to him throughout the night with my typical bluffs with 8 high etc !! so im wary of him and will not play against him at all, then there was 6 left i think, John (pusher with 97o) was being aggressive and punishing people for limpin into his BB, i like that play alot, .....anyway i look down at 4 4 and was decding how to play it, (the blinds were now 2000/4000 i think) i had about 6oK, just about average but the callin station to my righ t limped too so i didnt wanna raise it as i was sure he'd call, so i limped...then BOOM john pushes all in frmo the BB ...surprise surprise...folded to me..i thought he was at it , but then maye he has a weak pocket pair and doesnt wanna see a flop, well if he does its surely bigger than 44, then i picked up from him he didnt wanna caller so i put him on over cards and called the sham, with only top 3 gettin paid i felt i had to take a race if i wanted to put myself in a postion to win so i called for all my chips, i think i would have released if callin station played him but he didnt so it was heads up..he flipped over A 7 so we were racing...bang 4 on the flop straight away and i double up and cripple Johnny Boy..was a huge hand...had alot chips now so let people knock each other out and got heads up against my nemesis Brian the callin station....anyway he won, he offered a split pot of €450 each but i declined as i could defo beat this guy,,,,2 major hands took it away from me but the main one was he raised preflop, i called with Q 8 offsuit, flop came Q high with 2 hearts, he pushes all in , i have him covered by about 2 to 1, took me nearly 2 minutes to make up my mind, he had pushed all in abut 3 times throughout the tournament and not once was he bluffin so i nearly folded, but what did i call his preflop raise for if im gonna fold to a Q high flop so i called, he shows A x of hearts so he's drawing, he needed one heart but the dealer gave him 2 to make sure !!
Then the last hand, he raised preflop i called with K 9 offsuit, flop K high, he goes all in on a rainbow flop., i call in a shot, he shows K2 but a 2 on the turn took it away from me...as he said he had got lucky against me all night , which was just the way it was gonna be...so i pocketed €320 i think, then wait till you hear this.............
I had been tippin away at the pints and after the game i had a few too many so was slightly dwunk !! i head next door to find all the "Old timers" playin a serious cash game in 7 card studd (ouff!!) (with actual cash..it was hilarious...no such thing as all in, proper old school stuff this, every time they bet they'd take their wallet out and bet..was laughin my ass off) and of course the only thing better than watchin them boys play is playin with them...!! i openly told them im a comlete fish here...so i sat down and chatted with a guy who won our tournaments last month and I played very few hands but manily watched them play and what hands they were turning over, some pots were €700, some €50...in an hour i played 2 hands and won over €150 and both times i was BLUFFING lol , well semi bluffing the guy to my left was talkin to me about hands and stuff so i was learning fast, hands like id get 3 4 (hidden) and 56 showing were shit cause i could see all my outs in everyones hands ...yes i am this bad at 7 card studd!! ..my mate nevo had been sittin there the whole time tellin me with his eyes not to fooch it up...but of course i did and lost *everything* i had won that night with take a guess....a BLUFF!!!
Remember Jimmy Ireland the guy i mentioned in the tournament who called all his chips with an open ender, well, i learnt the hard way that this man cannot release a hand !! I had been talkin to him at the tournament and he was sayin he loves 7 card studd, anywho the hand....i get dealt 7 7 hidden and basically all my other cards are blanks but i kept bettin the maximum (which was half the pot) on every street and managed to build the pot to well over €400, when i bet 160 on the last card he thought for about 5 minutes, took out his walledt and called with only a pair of 10's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! even if i managed to pull 2 pair i would have won, to call all that money with only a single pair of 10's in Stud i think is mental,,,he obviously noted me for bluffin ta fooch...which was right !! even the old timers were shocked, i picked up my stuff and said "Thanks for the lesson Young Boys! " and left .........
quite the sick little fellow today! at that stage last night i was hammered, blew off all my money against guys playin this game 40 years, Last night lyin in bed i thought "ok well bet into Jimmy Ireland (i love his name!!) with strong hands cause he will pay you off if he catches any pioece of a flop" and to be honest i didnt think much of him for callin me, but the more i think about it today the more respect i have for him, the 2nd pot i won i showed the bluff...why? Cause i was a drunk idiot tryin to show he had balls against these guys who can tear me up at this game, Jimmy (im assumin here and like to think..) noted my play, how i bet the pot on every street when i was bluffing, not a hard thing to notice, so in his head he thought theres a good chance im was bluffing, why was i bettin the pot so strong, its obvious im tryin to force him to lay down his hand and in his gut he felt he was winning with something as miserable as a pair of 10's (note it was a 7 handed game at the 1st 2 streets) , im assuming hes seen it all at this game and picked up there was something wrong with my bettin pattern, it stank that i wanted to hear "pull away young boy t'is all yours" but instead i hear *sigh*...."ill call ya young fella, all i got is 10's" ..............
